Q&A with Sarah, Green Bandits Manager

We’re back with a new Q&A. This time we’re turning the lens on a group of brilliant eco-minded volunteers – The Green Bandits.

We’ve called on Sarah, who heads up the team, to give us a glimpse into the work they do to keep our luscious site green.

1. Please introduce yourself and tell us about your role at Standon Calling.

Hello, I’m Sarah Spalding and I head up a lovely little team of volunteers at Standon Calling called the ‘Green Bandits’. The Green Bandits are responsible for going around the campsites informing people of the green initiatives of the festival and encouraging festival-goers to be green and help us achieve our goals.  I piloted the team back in 2019 and we have continued from then.

2. What’s the best bit about your job?

I really enjoy being on site and amongst the volunteers – as a team we like to portray a relaxed nature and lead by example. With a little team it’s nice to get to know everyone and know that they will come to you if they encounter any difficulties. I like it when we get volunteers that have not experienced a festival before and my volunteers wanting to come back year after year.

3. What do you love most about festivals?

I am a music lover so that’s what fundamentally draws me in, it is nice to be around like-minded people, and especially in the lovely crowd we get at Standon Calling.

4. Tell us, what’s special about Standon Calling?

I am a local, so have grown up in Standon from a young age – it has such community feel and so many locals that get involved with and attend the festival. Prior to this role I have worked in other positions over 15 years at Standon Calling and it has been so nice to see the festival grow into what it is today.

Thank you Sarah! If you see any of the Green Bandits around site, say hello and stop for a chat!
