We’re turning the lens on some of the brilliant and highly-skilled professionals behind the scenes at Standon Calling festival.
Turning a festival dream into a reality each year, you simply wouldn’t have the festival you know and love without them.
This time we’ve called on Elissa, our Kids Area Manager and producer to share what makes Standon Calling so special to her.
I’m Elissa. I’ve produced and managed the Kids Area since 2016, programming some of the best performers and facilitators that keep families entertained across the whole weekend. Essentially, I project manage the entire family space, looking after all aspects from content, decor, marquees, on-site management, staffing, H&S (health & safety) and more.
I have been in the festival industry for 11 years now and hand on heart, this is the best job ever! A huge passion of mine is orchestrating immersive events. Anyone that knows me will tell you I’m the biggest geek when it comes to producing weird and wonderful happenings. I love bringing that element of magic for families to experience at Standon Calling. It’s the most incredible feeling knowing you’ve helped create precious moments for children to remember for years to come. I also really love working with my phenomenal team, made up of area managers, assistants, stylists, production managers, site crew and volunteers. They are all simply brilliant and the most loyal, hardworking folk that have become my festival family.
I haven’t attended a festival as a ticket holder in many years but, that doesn’t mean to say I don’t get to have fun and experience them. It’s hard to pinpoint what I love the most, so I’m simply going to say EVERYTHING! The people, the hidden treasures, the belly laughs, the randomness, the late night revelry, the artists, the mouth watering food, the creativity, the vibes, the crazy outfits…the list could go on and on! Festivals fill me with excitement and it’s a privilege to work in this industry.
I’m lucky enough to work on numerous festivals though Standon Calling is extra special to me. Not only are HQ and their on site teams simply the loveliest bunch of folk to work with (they really are!) plus Lord and Lady Trenchard are an absolute delight, but the festival itself is also on my home turf of Hertfordshire. Everything is brilliantly curated, the atmosphere is always ridiculously fun and the line-up is mind-blowingly good! So you can only imagine how super proud I am being involved with this gem of a festival.
